The Reverend Michael E. Drea - Pastor and Senior Chaplain
Worship Style - Traditional Roman Catholic
As a result of hearing about the plan of a student group from the Harvard Extension School, The Harvard Extension Cultural Studies Club, to present a "black mass", an act of satanic worship that mocks the Hold Sacrifice of the Mass on the campus of Harvard University, we decided to visit David's alma mater, St. Paul's Choir School, on this Sunday. David spent several years with the choir at this church. We were disturbed that Harvard was allowing such an event, and the Cardinal and Father Drea of St. Paul's expressed their great distress regarding this event. In an effort to be supportive, our family attended Mass at St. Paul's.
This was a Mass that could be described as a Missa Cantata, where the boys choir sings and most of the Mass is sung by the Celebrant and the congregation. The music was formal and profoundly beautiful. See the short clip at the following YouTube address.

Father Drea spoke on this Good Shepherd Sunday about the sheep knowing their shepherd's voice. He discussed how the shepherds in Ireland tend their sheep. Jesus Christ tends His sheep with love. Do you hear His voice? Father Drea gave examples of how we hear Jesus speaking to us. Do we listen?
"The King of love my shepherd is,
Whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am His
And He is mine forever..."

At the end of the service, Father Drea encouraged the congregation to gather at St. Paul's for a Eucharistic Holy Hour and Benediction at the same time as the black mass was to be held. He quoted Pope Francis, who warned of the danger of being naive about or underestimating the power of satan, whose evil is too often tragically present in our midst. Father Drea offered this prayer, "We pray for all associated with this act that they may turn away from evil and be converted to the Truth of Christ in their lives." Amen!
