Rev. William McKinnon (Pastor Mac)
Worship style - Contemporary
Since this church is located right next to Walmart, it is hard to miss. On this Sunday when we needed to attend an early service, this seemed a good choice. We were warmly greeted, and we let them know that one of Denise's former Sunday School teachers is a member and had told us about their church.
Freedom Worship Center describes itself as a Spirit-filled, non-denominational, full-gospel church. They have a passionate and gifted worship team including worship dancers. There were approximately 50 people in attendance. The congregation passionately invites and embraces the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Pastor Mac read the scripture that he would be discussing. "Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:13-16.
Pastor Mac then went on to outline five ways this scripture tells us to pray. Pray for strength, pray for health and well being, pray in faith, pray for one another and pray regularly. He also suggested that praying should open our hearts, that we should be willing to submit to God. We should also work on our listening skills and not just talk at God, but listen for that small, soft voice. Finally, prayer should be a life style. Pastor Mac reminded us that as Christians (Christ in us), whenever we walk into a room, Jesus walks into the room. Do we think this way?
We were certainly challenged to look at our prayer life.
