Bryan Wilkerson, Senior Pastor
Worship Style - Contemporary
We had previously been to Grace Chapel in Lexington when we had attended a conference. The church is very well equipped with a beautiful sanctuary, chapel, function hall and many meeting rooms. In addition, it is very well staffed to welcome visitors. When you arrive, there are parking signs for 1st time visitors. As you exit your car, there is someone to welcome you and escort you to the church. You are then introduced to greeter, who shows you the way to the sanctuary, where you are then greeted by an usher. Each of these people were very interested in why we were there, and they were willing to share their stories as well.
Unlike other churches we have visited, we had the unique opportunity to view the previous week's sermon. This was helpful as they were doing a teaching series entitled, "Come Together." The focus of this series is on the most personal aspects of the apostle Paul's letters, and how he helps us understand how to develop authentic, meaningful relationships with each other. This week's sermon was entitled, "Conflict: Pit or Path?" This sermon began with a great video of a church meeting that was a true representative of a typical group meeting where there is conflict and tensions. We were referred to a quote by C.S. Lewis, "Community always comes down to real people." The Bible Scripture was Philippians 4:2-3. In this particular Scripture, Paul is urging the people of the church to be of the same mind in the Lord and come together. One of our favorite quotes of the sermon was "if you don't talk it out, you will act it out." Pastor Wilkerson went into great detail dissecting the chaos that conflict can cause and the challenge of building a true community. As this was a continuation of a series, we would highly recommend viewing the sermon on their website @ www.grace.org.
