As you can see by the picture, this was an absolutely gorgeous September morning! We decided to stay local as we were doing a lot of fall yard work over the weekend. So, we selected Triumphant Life Church, which is a Foursquare Church. "The Foursquare Church, officially named the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, is a Pentecostal denomination that resulted from the dynamic evangelistic ministry of Aimee Semple McPherson, who opened the historic Angelus Temple on January 1, 1923." Learn more about the Foursquare Church at www.foursquare.org. This was our first visit to a Foursquare Church.
We were warmly greeted and given a well-organized welcome packet that provided us with a great deal of information on the core values of Triumphant Life Church and what they have to offer. We had a fun conversation regarding the particular history of this church and discovered that it had once been an Episcopal church. It was suggested that we might now consider it "epistacostal." One of the assistant pastors was speaking this morning, and we were also greeted by and introduced to his wife.
The sermon was part #3 of a four part series entitled, "Who Is Jesus?" This sermon was based on John 10:1-10 (NIV) and was entitled, "The Gate." In this Scripture, the pastor tells us that Jesus is the gate. Actually, Jesus tells us that He is the gate in John 10:7, "Therefore Jesus said again, 'Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep.' " The sermon continued to break down the points of the gate. 1. There is a right way in. (For example, you have to go through the correct entrance to a movie theatre, and not just anyone can walk into your home unless you let them in.) 2. There is a gatekeeper. (Someone is checking ID's.) 3. There is a shepherd who calls the sheep by name and leads them. (He is a sheep whisperer.) 4. There is a gate awaiting your entry through. (You have to decide and be willing to walk through it.) Once you walk through the gate, you are saved! At that point, you can't be any more saved, but you can become more Christ-like.
