This is the first church we have visited that is housed in a renovated mill building. It is also the first church we have attended that has its own radio station. Some offices have been turned into classrooms for the children's ministry, and the atmosphere as we entered was full of energy. The sanctuary is housed on the third floor and was accessible by an elevator if needed. There were approximately 150-200 people in attendance. We began with praise music and then announcements. The church was celebrating a very successful community event where 500-600 residents of the community participated.
The church has been working a plan of reading the entire Bible, so we were coming in on the tail end of this impressive goal. Today's sermon was based on Revelations 22:6-18. In particular, Pastor George focused on verses 6-7: "And he said to me, 'These words are trustworthy and true, for the Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, has sent His angel to show His servants what must soon take place. See, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.' " Pastor George immediately addressed the question regarding "coming soon," since this was written over 1900 years ago. He said that whenever it happens, it will feel quick and sudden. He asked us, "Don't you notice as you get older you are constantly asking yourself, where did the time go?" So, when Jesus comes, it will feel that way too.
What then are we to do? The first thing the scripture tells us to do is to "keep the words of the prophecy of this book." Pastor George then suggested that there will come a time when we won't be able to change. "We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work." (John 9:4) Therefore, it is time to obey God, it is time to grow up, follow God, stop doing what we shouldn't be doing and start doing what God is asking us to do. We must be willing to submit to God. Why? He continued with verse 22: " 'See, I am coming soon; my reward is with me, to repay according to everyone's work." So, Jesus is coming with a reward. Now is the time to work. The reward is for faithfulness. What are we waiting for??
Following the service, we had the opportunity to speak with Pastor George. He shared with us his amazing testimony regarding how he came to Fitchburg and how they obtained a radio station, which is now called, RenewFM. We encourage you to check out the story at: http://renewfm.org/about/history/.
