Pastor Barry Burdick
Worship Style - Traditional Methodist
This Sunday, during Independence Day weekend, was also the beginning of our "staycation," and we had our family all together! It was a gorgeous beach day, and we were cheerfully greeted as we entered the church. Once again, the pastor of this church was away, and a lay "servant," Chris Czech, was leading the worship and giving the "Good News."
Chris shared a testimony regarding the past week and the challenges he faced. His "Good News" was based on Matthew 11: 28-30: " 'Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.' " (This touched us as a statement of true freedom and independence, very appropriate for the day.) Chris stated that at this point in the Scripture, Jesus was competing with life, and that when we have too much, get caught up in life and allow life to be all we focus on, we don't let God love us.
Chris challenged us to to "go out and carry the Bible in our hearts," and "be a copy of the Bible for those who need a moment of clarity." Sounds like Jesus (The Word) to us.
